Virginia Beach Stargazing 101: Mapping the Night Sky

About this event

If you have ever looked up at the night sky and wondered how to make sense of the patterns above, this evening is for you. We are gathering in Virginia Beach to get comfortable with the basics of stargazing. This is an informal, beginner-friendly session designed to help you move beyond just looking at lights and start recognizing constellations, major planets, and the movement of the sky throughout the year. Whether you are a total novice or just looking for a refresher, we will walk through the fundamentals together in a relaxed, low-pressure environment. Please bring a lawn chair or a blanket, and dress for the cooling evening temperatures. We will spend some time looking at sky maps and discussing what to look for, followed by plenty of time to practice finding things on your own. It is a great way to meet others in the area who share an interest in astronomy and to get a better handle on what is happening right above us. If you think you might be able to make it, please take a moment to RSVP so I can get a sense of how many people to expect.
