Violet Goes Voting!: Storytime & Mock Election

Multipurpose Room. Join Evanston author L’Oreal Payton Thompson, owner of local business Zora’s Place, for a special storytime celebrating her newest children’s book, Violet Goes Voting! Perfect for ages 4 - 6 and their families, Violet Goes Voting follows young Violet as she joins her parents at the polls for the first time. Along the way, she discovers what voting means, learns about Black history and the civil rights movement, and begins dreaming about the day she can cast a ballot of her own. After the story, kids will get to be the voters! We’ll talk about why voting matters, how people use their voices to make choices, and then hold a fun, kid friendly mock election where everyone gets a chance to cast their very own ballot! Come read, learn, choose, and make your voice count! The City of Evanston is committed to promoting a Citywide culture of accessibility and inclusivity.
