About this event
Even by the standards of the turbulent and radical sixties, essayist Susan Sontag was a voice championing unorthodox and rigorous criticism of the arts. Among her most well-known writings was the collection of essays in the book Against Interpretation .Discontent with the predominance of critics intellectualizing and searching for the “meaning” within an artwork, Sontag asks devotees of art to instead embrace its emotional and formalistic attributes. As part of the New York Public Library’s US 250 initiative, we invite you to another reading discussion of an essential American classic! No registration is required.
