About this event
Explore classic and contemporary fiction and nonfiction from around the world. This group will sample critically acclaimed and prize-winning titles with open and inclusive discussion. This month's read: A Guardian and A Thief, by Megha Majumdar. In a time when heat and unpredictable rain has left India confronting "shortages", Ma is preparing to join her husband in Michigan. Then her family's hard-earned documents disappear. Boomba is a boy who has moved to the uncaring city to help his family at any cost, and turns to petty crime when work disappears. Majumdar doesn't shy away from showing how people lose their decency when fighting for those they love, and the tragic consequences as small incidents compound.
