About this event

The tension between trees and utilities is a seldom discussed topic, but one that has great importance for the urban forest and our communities. Utilities supply our city with the water, power, sewer, and communication systems we need in our everyday lives, but our cities were not always designed to center trees as another important resource we need to live healthy and happy lives. In this presentation, local arborist Shauna Willett, will discuss the tension between trees and utilities, help us challenge our assumptions about their compatibility, and teach us how to make practical decisions around tree placement, pruning, and choosing the right tree species to ensure your tree’s longevity, and utility’s integrity. This program is possible thanks to Tacoma Creates and the Tacoma Public Library
