About this event

Remembering Freedom: Past, Present, and Future will take place on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM at the Hampton History Museum. This community gathering will honor the meaning and legacy of freedom while creating space for reflection, dialogue, artistic expression, and hope for the future. The program will explore the connection between remembrance, resistance, resilience, and literacy, inviting attendees to consider the question: “What does freedom mean to you?” Through spoken word, music, an artist talk, facilitated discussion, and community participation, the evening will recognize the experiences and contributions that have shaped our understanding of freedom. Special guests include Chadra Pittman, founder of Sankofa Projects; artist Richard Ward; and activist Issac Horne, along with musical and spoken-word performances. A community Time Capsule will also provide an opportunity for participants to contribute their reflections, hopes, and visions for the future. The evening will conclude with photographs and fellowship, bringing community members together to remember the past, engage with the present, and imagine a more hopeful future. The event is free and open to the public. SPACE IS LIMITED and registration is requested. Registered guests will be seated first.
