This month we’re watching *[Paths of Glory](https://br.catalog.lionlibraries.org/GroupedWork/ef5c940f-7e2d-c618-a78b-ebbbfaa86418/Home?searchId=184757504&recordIndex=2&page=1&searchSource=local)* (1957), an American anti-war film directed by Stanley Kubrick, from a screenplay he co-wrote with Calder Willingham and Jim Thompson, based on actual events. The film stars Kirk Douglas as a battlefield officer-lawyer defending three French soldiers unjustly accused of cowardice during World War I. It received critical acclaim and several international accolades, including a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Film, and is considered one of the greatest war films ever made. In 1992, the film was deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
