Theatre B presents Every Brilliant Thing at Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center in Detroit Lakes, MN on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Historic Holmes Theatre, 806 Summit Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, USA Every Brilliant Thing is a play by Duncan Macmillan wand Jonny Donahoe, a one-person show about a child who starts a list of “everything brilliant about the world” to help their mother cope with depression, a list that grows and evolves with them through life’s challenges, including love, loss, and mental health. The play is known for its humor, poignancy, and immersive, interactive nature. It’s a story about resilience, hope, and finding joy in the small things. There will be a Talk-Back session after the performance focusing on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention. Presented by Theatre B. Directed by Scott Ecker. PRICING: PAY WHAT YOU WILL $10 – $30 (in $5-increments: $10, $15, $20…etc) GET TICKETS ABOUT AUDIENCE INTERACTION When you arrive and we begin seating, the actor performing that evening will be in the space, saying hello and getting to know the room. As part of this, they may come up to you and hand you a small card with a number on it. If that number is called during the show, you’ll simply read the rest of what’s on the card out loud—nothing complicated, just a small way to help tell the story. They may also gently check in to see if you’d be comfortable volunteering for a brief moment of audience interaction. This could mean stepping into a simple role—like “Vet” or “Teacher.” There are no lines to memorize, no preparation needed, and nothing you’ll be asked to do that is uncomfortable or inappropriate. It’s all very simple and supported. We are going through this together. The actor will also share a bit about the show, the comedy, and real-life moments, and note that it touches on themes of suicide and grief. You are always free to say yes, no, or even change your mind at any point. And however you choose to be here—participating or simply watching—you’re already an important part of the experience. Patrons under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
