Joining them is the phenomenal vocalist Najoura, whose soulful voice and commanding stage presence add a breathtaking dimension to the evening. Their combined talents create a performance that transcends genres, blending smooth jazz, soulful melodies, timeless classics, and contemporary favorites into a musical journey that speaks to the heart. The Velvet Reed Sax Royale promises an atmosphere of elegance, sophistication, and unforgettable entertainment. Audiences will experience the warmth of smooth saxophone harmonies, the emotion of heartfelt vocals, and the energy of musicians performing at the height of their craft. The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. Her new album is “Voices”, which continues her exploration of early black church forms in contemporary contexts. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been a visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with several youth arts organizations.
