About this event

($30-$40 + Dice Fees | 6:30pm & 8:30pm Shows | 16+) Spend an evening with two of Tucson’s most celebrated musicians, vocalist Katherine Byrnes and pianist Jeffrey Haskell, as they explore the timeless music of George Gershwin. The program celebrates the remarkable songwriter and composer and lyricist brother whose music bridged Broadway, jazz, and the concert hall, creating a sound that remains unmistakably American nearly a century later. An award-winning vocalist and graduate of the University of Arizona’s School of Music, Katherine Byrnes has built a career spanning jazz, Broadway, rock, and classical music. She has performed throughout the United States and internationally, including tours in Europe and China, and has shared the stage with artists ranging from Amos Lee to the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Calexico, and Orkesta Mendoza. Jeffrey Haskell is a longtime pillar of Tucson’s jazz community, whose career began as a professional musician in Philadelphia and has taken him from the Boston Pops and major symphony orchestras to decades of teaching, arranging, conducting, and performing in Southern Arizona. A former director of Jazz Studies at the University of Arizona and co-founder of the Tucson Jazz Orchestra, Haskell brings a lifetime of experience and deep knowledge of the American songbook to this special Gershwin program.
