The 'Burbs: Presented by See It On 16mm

About this event

Every neighborhood has its secrets… See It On 16mm is back to unspool a late-October screening of the 1989 Tom Hanks horror comedy The ‘Burbs! Ray Peterson (Tom Hanks) just wants to enjoy a quiet week at home. Unfortunately, the new neighbors at the end of the cul-de-sac are acting… strange. Really strange. When Ray and his fellow neighborhood busybodies begin investigating the mysterious Klopeks, their suburban snooping quickly spirals into a full-blown conspiracy—and maybe something much darker. Joe Dante’s The ‘Burbs is a pitch-perfect collision of suburban comedy and horror, turning the American dream of the perfect neighborhood into a paranoid nightmare. With Tom Hanks at his gleefully neurotic best, plus Carrie Fisher, Bruce Dern, Corey Feldman, and Henry Gibson, the film skewers nosy neighbors, backyard boredom, and the terrifying possibility that the people living next door might actually be monsters.
