The Many Deaths of Laila Starr: A Comic in Five Acts This 90-minute workshop will begin with students exploring the graphic novel The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by writer Ram V and illustrator Filipe Andrade as a mentor text, using its storytelling and visual techniques to inspire their own creative work. Students will then get a behind-the-scenes look at Minnesota Opera’s world premiere adaptation, including set and costume renderings, music, and clips from the orchestra workshop, and explore how the graphic novel is transformed for the stage. Finally, students will use story prompts and Freytag’s Pyramid to develop and begin creating their own five-frame comic!
