Take a Hike! ...with Black Philadelphia! Join the crew for a hike along the Wissahickon Trail and Forbidden Drive. This is a regular (moderate) hike, with an optional STUPID hike extension for those looking for a challenge! Agenda - Take Note! 8:45 a.m. - Meet and Greet at Sunoco (Do ***NOT*** park in the gas station lot) **9:00 a.m. - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding...don't miss us!** 10:00 a.m. - regular hike ends. Join the optional extended/**stupid** hike 11:30 a.m. - End of hike (approximately) THIS EVENT IS RAIN OR SHINE, AND WILL ONLY BE CANCELED SHOULD THERE BE THUNDERSTORMS AND ICE If you're looking for a fun challenge, this is it! Nature will be all over you by the time we're done. This is a great event to talk and get to know other members. BRING WATER. ***Hiking poles are helpful, but aren't required.*** WARNING: Our hike is not a flat-terrain walk like the path along Kelly Drive; this is a moderate hike. The trails are hilly and will take us into wooded areas, so I wouldn't recommend this for someone with serious joint problems. There is a path that remains flat and runs for several miles right alongside the creek for those who would rather keep it simple, but our group will be hiking the trails. We will take a couple of breaks, but this is not a leisurely stroll; be prepared to maintain a decent pace. NOTE: This hike will take us along a spot that may bother those with a **fear of** **heights**. Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction. I don't want to leave a fallen warrior behind, but I will! I'm just sayin'... Also suggested are a bottle of water and a bite to eat, such as a granola bar, fruit, or trail mix. Hiking pole, bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. You may just need a light jacket, but be sure to layer, as you will warm up.
