About this event
PLEASE NOTE 8:30 START TIME. THIS HIKE WILL REQUIRE A SMALL "LEAP OF FAITH" IN THAT I HAVEN'T HIKED HERE IN SOME YEARS, & NEVER LED THE BURROS HERE! HOWEVER, I REMEMBER IT QUITE WELL, PLUS IT'S NOT AT ALL DIFFICULT. IT WILL GET US TO AN AREA WE HAVEN'T HIKED IN A LONG TIME, WHICH WE ALL USED TO REGARD AS A MOST PRETTY SPOT. DRIVE TIME WILL BE CLOSE TO 3 HOURS ROUND TRIP! MILEAGE HIKED WILL DEPEND ON OUR CONSENSUS OF HOW FAR WE HIKE ON THE EAST FORK TRAIL; I'M THINKING ABOUT A 6 MILE ROUND TRIP DISTANCE. Hike TH is not too far past Via Caldera entrance. There is a designated parking area, which leads us to a mostly flat area of multiple bridge crossings back & forth over the water. It's very pretty here, not dramatic scenery, as I recall, but noticeably lovely surroundings. We walk easily towards a large pool of water, with large boulders above it, which is the end of this segment of our hike. We then backtrack a bit, keeping to our right, on a trail which leads into the East Fork of the Jemez River. This is also an easy trail, which we can hike as far as we like, as it will be an out & back. I think the entire length of this trail may be 10 or more miles, we won't go this far, but it can be hiked in full as a car shuttle. That's not my plan for this hike, I want to re-acquaint myself with this area/route, & bring the Group somewhere we don't frequent. Don't expect a challenging or strenuous workout hike, this one should be pleasant, easygoing; I hope most like it! Burro Hikes are for experienced hikers, most of our hikes are moderate in difficulty (by our standards), usually on designated trails, usually 4-6 miles in distance unless otherwise specified. Non-aggressive, well-mannered dogs are welcome on all my hikes (unless otherwise specified, some locations prohibit dogs). Newcomers are welcome on all my hikes; I ask that newcomers please test your fitness for my Group by timing yourself hiking up and down Atalaya, which you should be able to do comfortably…
