About this event
The Rockport Conservation Commission welcomes Professor Thomas Bateman to the Rockport Public Library for a presentation titled “Stress and Effective Coping as Our Climate Changes.” The talk will take place in the library’s lower level on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. Bateman notes that—with regard to climate change—scientific causes, disasters, and technical solutions receive the bulk of public attention and coverage. “We need to attend more, and better, to ourselves,” asserts Bateman. “This includes climate stress and coping strategies, which can strengthen both personal and community resilience.” The program will explore customizing pro-climate actions in ways that 1) aren’t too costly, 2) suit personal interests and skills, 3) are satisfyingly impactful, and 4) contribute to needed system changes. This talk will not be about personal carbon footprints. Thomas S. Bateman, D.B.A. is the Bank of America Professor Emeritus of Commerce at UVA McIntire School of Commerce. Bateman specializes in organizational behavior and strategic leadership. He conducts research on proactive behavior, problem solving, and job stress in organizational contexts and as behavioral challenges in the domain of climate change.
