About this event
Let's hike at Strawberry Creek Nature Area. This is an exploratory hike, meaning I haven't hiked here yet, so I don't know how well the trails are marked. Meet at the Strawberry Creek Trailhead at 3:30, trail time is 3:35. Sunset is 6:07 PM, so we must exit the park by 6:37 PM. Dogs are permitted but must be on a leash. We'll hike a combination of the trails, which should take about 1.5-2 hours to complete. We'll plan on taking this route: From Trailhead, take the left fork to the Owl Bend Trail, hike approx 1/4 mile on this trail crossing under the power lines where we will enter the Prairie Trail, hiking out and back on it for approx 2/3 miles, where we will then continue back on the Owl Bend trail, hiking 1/4 miles to continue left onto the Strawberry Creek Trail, hiking for approx 1/2 mile until it intersects with the Turkey Roost Trail, where we'll hike 1 1/2 mile looping back to the Strawberry Creek Trail, hiking 1/2 mile, which will lead us back to the trailhead. DISTANCE/PACE: About 3-4 miles at about a 2.5-3 mph pace, stopping as needed to enjoy the scenery, drink water, regroup and catch our breath if needed. BRING: This is a combination of dirt/rock or grass trail, so wear hiking boots or sturdy tennis shoes, bug repellent, water, and possibly a snack. Also, some people use trekking poles to help keep their footing while hiking hills when needed. IF WE HAVE BAD WEATHER THIS HIKE WILL BE CANCELED. CHECK BACK HERE FOR UPDATES.
