About this event

Experience San Antonio’s history through music during Stories in Song: A Corridos & Conjunto Walking Tour, presented by the UT San Antonio Institute of Texan Cultures and Casa Navarro State Historic Site. The evening begins at the Institute of Texan Cultures with renowned musicians and educators Juan and Armando Tejeda, who will explore the history and cultural significance of corridos and conjunto music through a live presentation and performance. From there, participants will join the Casa Navarro team for a guided walk along San Pedro Creek, exploring historic sites and stories from Little Laredo, or “Laredito,” a neighborhood with an important place in San Antonio’s Mexican American history. The experience concludes at Casa Navarro, where guests will discover how corridos have preserved stories of people, places, and events across generations before trying the tradition themselves with a hands-on corrido-writing activity. “Stories in Song” is presented as part of Downtown West’s Journey West Guitar Wars urban activation.
