About this event

As we prepare for Spring 2027, the Office of Academic Engagement (OAE) is seeking faculty partners interested in implementing Supplemental Instruction (SI) in courses with historically high DFW (D/F/Withdrawal) rates. SI is a high-impact, peer-assisted learning model designed to support student success by connecting course content (what to learn) with effective learning and study strategies (how to learn). How Supplemental Instruction Works An SI Leader is a trained, successful peer who has previously completed the course and demonstrated strong academic performance. Throughout the semester, the SI Leader attends the designated course, takes notes, and observes course content and expectations. This experience helps the SI Leader plan structured, voluntary SI sessions outside of class. During these sessions, the SI Leader facilitates collaborative activities that help students engage with challenging concepts, apply effective study strategies, ask questions, solve problems, and develop confidence as independent learners. SI Leaders do not replace classroom instruction, reteach the course, grade assignments, create exams, or serve as teaching assistants. Instead, they facilitate peer learning and help students develop strategies for mastering course material. Faculty Partnership Faculty play an important role in the success of SI by: Recommending qualified students who have completed the course with a grade of B or higher. Supporting the implementation of SI in the course and approving the selected SI Leader. Communicating with the SI Leader throughout the semester about course content, expectations, and upcoming assessments. Providing brief opportunities for the SI Leader to introduce and promote SI sessions to students. Encouraging all students to participate, positioning SI as a resource for everyone rather than exclusively for students who are struggling academically. Interested in Participating?
