**Figurative and Symbolic Meanings of Sunsets** **End of a cycle: Closing out a day or a phase of life.** **Peace: A quiet time for rest and reflection.** **Transition: Shrift from light into darkness** **Literary and Poetic Terms for Sunset:** **Gloaming** **Eventide** **Evenfall** **Common Descriptive Words for Sunset:** **Twilight** **Dusk** **Sundown** **Opacarophile - A lover of Sunsets** **This will be a series of events celebrating contemplative, mindful Sunset Viewings. Primarily at the important dates of the Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer solstices and equinoxes, but will include other dates as well. After the group silent viewing of the sunset, there will be fairly short jaunts to neighborhoods famous for their ethnic restaurants, where the attendees will partake in a glorious group dining experience. To foster a jovial and congenial atmosphere, I will limit the number of attendees to six (6). In the coming years, I plan on expanding these Sunset Viewings to diverse venues around the Greater New York area.** **NO TWO SUNSETS ARE THE SAME** **We will be gathering by the huge marble staircase of the Winter Garden Atrium in Brookfield Place. Please come find me to sign in, also take advantage of the nearby restrooms. The nearest Subway Stations to the meeting location are the #1 Train WTC Cortland Station and the R Train Station at Cortland Street. Upon exiting Brookfield Place we will walk north on the Esplanade to Rockefeller Park on the shoreline** **There will be a brief breathing and exercise session, followed by some basic mindfulness training as we wait to silently view the setting of the sun. After bidding farewell to the departing Sun, we will make our way East (along Chambers Street) from Tribeca to City Hall Park. Remember that Autumn officially begins at 8:04 PM. Via several backstreets we will pass through the Civic Center and arrive at Chinatown. Over dinner we will discuss our individual Sunset Viewings experiences. I strongly…
