Speaker Series: Astrophysics
Speaker: Greg Tucker, Brown University April 11, 2026 5:00 – 5:45 pm Observing Distant Planets from the Edge of Space With over 6,000 known exoplanets orbiting other stars, we are in an era of learning about new types of planets not found in our solar system. For example, some systems have giant planets the size of Jupiter which are much closer to their star than tiny Mercury is to our Sun. As a result, these planets are hot and have intense winds. A balloon-borne observatory called EXCITE will contribute to our understanding of these planets. Greg Tucker is a Professor at Brown University and currently works mostly in the field of exoplanets.
