About this event
ON VIEW: January 25–February 27 Art Walk & Reception: Friday, 4, 4:30-6:30pm Space Invaders encourages you to rethink familiar stories of space and invasion through the lens of history. Inspired by sci-fi and the classic arcade game, New Mexico artist Eric J. García uses bold graphics, prints, projections, and interactive play to connect aliens and outer space to colonialism, Western expansion and life today. ON VIEW IN MARIANI GALLERY REFUSE by Shelby Shadwell January 19–February 25 | Mariani Gallery REFUSE presents large-scale charcoal drawings and oil paintings that turn trash bags, animal remains, and emergency blankets into intensely detailed, almost glowing images. These works may both unsettle and captivate you, opening space to question what counts as “low” or “high” in art and how beauty is constructed. ON VIEW IN OAK ROOM GALLERY Paintings by Allan Bennetts February 2–March 10 | Oak Room Gallery This exhibition invites you to look again at everyday technologies, especially once they stop working as intended. Through careful, slow painting from direct observation, Allan Bennetts turns these silent, broken devices into portraits that reveal their strange beauty, hinting at memories, consumer culture, and how closely we live with our gadgets.
