About this event
In honor of World Peace Day, established by the UN General Assembly to promote world peace, non-violence, and global ceasefire, Grace Cathedral hosts SOUNDS OF LOSS, an audio exhibit by award-winning German director and multimedia artist Philip Gröning. Statistically, at least 550 people are killed in one of the worldwide wars each day in 2026. Gröning’s installation uses a simple clicking noise, similar to each other yet each one unique, to remind viewers of the unique lives continually lost to global conflict — on average, every 2.62 minutes. SOUNDS OF LOSS is included with the cathedral’s admission fee. About the Artist SOUNDS OF LOSS was initiated in 2026 by media artist and director Philip Gröning —whose works include INTO GREAT SILENCE, winner of the Sundance Film Festival and the European Film Award, present in art shows globally. It is being realized in close collaboration with other artists, such as Daniel Door, Marc Parisotto, and Maren Rommerskirchen.
