Small Talk That Pays Big Dividends (for Teens)

Teen Room, first floor.. A workshop for teens, led by author and communications expert Kim Kerrigan, to reduce your dependency on your phone and become socially literate again. Become a more active communicator by relearning how to stay focused on others and be less dependent on your phone. In addition, you will acquire the tools to ensure you are socially literate, respectful of others, and much more aware of your communication partner’s verbal and nonverbal cues. This program will further provide you with the skills to be both an accomplished communicator and a considerate and engaged human being. In this workshop, you will learn to: Speak productively and listen accurately for successful communication Identify the essential steps of the listening process Enhance your conversations with four vital feedback techniques Use an effective tone of voice for greater rapport Insert “I” statements to demonstrate responsibility Ask open-ended questions to extend discussions Employ fundamental tools for excellent listening Recognize key elements of nonverbal communication Accessibility Notice: We strive to make our events accessible.
