About this event

Join us at Greenpoint Library on October 10th, 2026 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm in Eco Lab 1 for a digital care & data maintenance workshop. Developed in partnership with data ethicist and activist Imani Thompson, this workshop gives folks the tools to take back ownership of their digital lives. We'll expose the data centers, energy consumption, and environmental costs hiding behind "unlimited storage". Participants will audit their phones, move photos from Snapchat and the cloud onto a USB stick, and learn to care for their data on their own terms. The workshop closes with a scrapbooking session, printing photos and making collages as a deliberate act of reclaiming what matters most. We’ll provide USB sticks and crafting materials, but please bring your own personal devices and all necessary chords and chargers to be able to move photos onto the USB stick. About the Facilitators: Antonia Simon is an environmental technologist and the director of Slow Circuits, a circular technology collective building libraries of refurbished technology within community-based organisations. Alongside the Library, she hosts weaving workshops where participants weave with ethernet cable as a medium to discuss their relationship with technology, and what they might want it to become. Imani Thompson is a privacy expert, tech ethicist and the founder/host of Cache Me Outside, a Brooklyn-based security culture and digital literacy event series. **This program is designed for ages 16-25, and registration is required. ** Registration will open on September 26th at 10:00 AM, 2026 and closes at October 9th, 2026 at 2:00 PM.
