Slow Circuits: A Weaving Circle (Registration Required, Ages 16-25)

Join us at Greenpoint Library on October 8th, 2026 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm in Eco Lab 3 (Teen Zone) for a weaving circle where participants will collectively weave items from discarded electronic wires. The process is accompanied by a facilitated discussion that explores the extractive origins of technologies, their lifecycles, and their afterlives through waste management and remediation. Through this collective practice, the workshop makes visible the material and ecological costs embedded in our technologies to examine how technology proliferation exacerbates inequities along race, gender, and class lines. About the Facilitators: Antonia Simon is an environmental technologist and the director of Slow Circuits, a circular technology collective building libraries of refurbished technology within community-based organisations. Alongside the Library, she hosts weaving workshops where participants weave with ethernet cable as a medium to discuss their relationship with technology, and what they might want it to become. Imani Thompson is a privacy expert, tech ethicist and the founder/host of Cache Me Outside, a Brooklyn-based security culture and digital literacy event series. **This program is designed for ages 16-25, and registration is required.** Registration for this event opens at 10:00 AM on September 24th, 2026, and closes at 6:00 PM on October 7th, 2026.
