Beyond Frida, Women artists shaping modern & contemporary Mexican art: An evening lecture series led by art historian Dr. Megan Lorraine Debin, Sips & Stories reveals the too often-forgotten histories of women artists. Each lecture brings history to life through engaging storytelling, rich visuals, and thoughtful discussion. Lecture Schedule August 6: Power Before Colonization: Women, goddesses, and authority in ancient Indigenous Mexico August 13: The Feminist Nun: Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz and the fight for women’s intellect, voice, and education in colonial Mexico August 20: Frida, the Icon: Identity, pain, politics, and self-fashioning August 27: Beyond Frida: Women artists shaping modern & contemporary Mexican art Tickets Here Dr Megan Lorraine Debin holds a PhD from the Department of Art History at University of California, Los Angeles, where she also earned a Master’s degree in Latin American Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Italian. She is currently a full-time Professor of Art History at Fullerton College, where she teaches Mexican, Latin American and Asian art history courses, as well as Western/European art history surveys. She often teaches part-time at California State University, Long Beach and other area colleges. Her research interests include contemporary performance and land art in Mexico, ancient indigenous arts, contemporary global indigenous arts, feminist, activist, and street art, and her pedagogical interests center on social justice, innovation, and technology.
