The Monkey House presents shepup w/ Keta Ester, Vehicle & Ashna Maj Hille Day and date Wednesday - 9/9 Doors 7:00 pm / Show 7:30 pm 21+ Meet shepup — an indie-folk band based in Ridgewood, NY. In a typical shepup song: narcotic vocals, jazz chords plucked on nylon strings, a delightfully well-synced rhythm section, and a great big dollop of whimsy. Songwriter Sheila Flaherty writes with deep sincerity about bullies, swamps, family history, queerness, love, friendship, and her experiences as an engineer who works full time on a sludge ship. Influences include Alice Phoebe Lou, Okay Kaya, and Sibylle Baier. Sheila believes in strict authenticity, the power of humor, and that these two things are not mutually exclusive.
