About this event
Amelia Island is famous for its million-year-old fossils including shark teeth, pectens (rare & elusive fossil scallop shells), and bones from megafauna like megalodons, mammoths, and giant beavers. Artifacts from the Island’s long history as a fort, pirate hideaway, and commerce hub can also found, and the Island has even given up gold doubloons from a 1715 shipwreck! In addition to these ancient treasures, Amelia Island beaches are known for their natural beauty and are full of modern riches in the form of seashells, wildlife, and obscure objects. Walk the beach with the Fernandina Fossils team of experts to learn about all these Island treasures and then return to the Fossil Info Center to have your finds identified. We’ll help you memorialize your favorite fossil find as a meaningful souvenir in a 3d display frame with scientifically accurate ID cards or a memory bottle keychain.
