Sewing Workshop - Quarter Square Triangle Quilted Coasters

The Vallejo John F. Kennedy is hosting a start-to-finish guided sewing program making a set of 4 coasters with the hourglass block design (quarter square triangles). To make our coasters we will be using stable woven fabric and quilt batting. We will provide a limited selection of fabrics, but you are more than welcome to bring your own materials if you have any you would prefer to use. If you bring your own fabric, please make sure it is a stable woven. The fabric can be made of any material, but we recommend non-slippery fabrics that are not thick. We have 5 sewing machines available for the workshop. If you have your own machine you would like to bring, please let us so know so we can set up the room accordingly. If you have any questions, please call the library: (866) 572-7587. Due to limited machinery and supplies, we require registration for this event. Participants in this adult program need to know some sewing machine basics such as threading a machine and sewing straight lines. Weekly Schedule: October 13: Cutting, sewing the quarter square triangles, making at least one coaster October 20: Finishing If you are more advanced at sewing, you may finish the coasters in one session. Two sessions are provided so participants with less experience have time to finish their projects and ask any questions they need to along the way. Supplies: We will provide all materials, however you are welcome to bring your own fabric and thread if you prefer. For this project you will need: Two 9" squares in contrasting fabrics One 9.5" square for the backing OR four 4.75" squares of any design of the backings Four 4.75" squares of quilt batting Matching or contrasting thread (cotton or polyester is fine)
