Sculpting the (Un)Spoken: A Participatory Performance with Iris van Herpen

On select days, Iris van Herpen will be seated within Sculpting the Senses, inviting visitors to join her in conversation and meditative, attentive handwork. Embodying Van Herpen’s collaborative process, dialogue will emerge organically from the rhythm of craft during intimate moments of creativity. Rather than presenting couture as a singular artistic gesture, the performance reframes creation as an exchange of knowledge and ideas. Van Herpen and her visitors will actively shape and construct a new look together in real time. As conversations arise at the table, shaped by the intimacy of pleating fabric by hand, each person’s unique movement and hand anatomy will subtly form variations in texture across the dress. Later, the most memorable moments from these conversations will be embroidered into the interior of the dress. The finished work will hold all the different voices, ideas, and shared time within its seams, expressing couture as a performance of material memory. Free with tickets to Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses. Open to ages 12 and over. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Participants will be recorded.
