SCHOOL OF ROCK AT THE FRERET MARKET Saturday, October 3, we're taking over a corner of Uptown — with a folding table and a stack of free lesson tickets. School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans will be at the Freret Market from 11 AM to 4 PM, at Freret Street and Napoleon Avenue. Come find us. We're bringing free lesson tickets and full information on every program we run, and we're there to answer the questions people usually feel weird asking: What does a lesson actually look like? Is my seven-year-old too young? Is my fifteen-year-old too far behind? Can I start at forty-five having never touched a guitar? Short answers: no, no, and absolutely yes. Longer answers are what the table is for. School of Rock Metairie/New Orleans is an extracurricular, performance-based music school with programs for students ages 4 through adult. Lessons happen at the school, but the whole point of them happens on a stage — our students play festivals, clubs and neighborhood fests all over the New Orleans area, because learning an instrument alone in a bedroom is not the same as learning to play in front of people. Live student performance is how the next generation of musicians actually gets made, here and at School of Rock stages around the world. And the Freret Market is a good place to see why that matters. The first Saturday of every month from October through February, the corner fills up with around 70 local vendors across art, flea and food, plus restaurant pop-ups, a kids area, and local musicians playing outdoors all day where anybody walking by can hear them. It's free, it's outside, and it's the kind of neighborhood live music New Orleans is built on. So come eat something good, listen to whoever's playing, and swing by our table.
