Scholastic Chess Tournament Join us on Saturday, April 25, for the Mississippi Children’s Museum – Meridian’s Scholastic Chess Tournament! Since school and community chess programs have been created and revitalized, the 1500-year-old game has seen a resurgence in Mississippi. These tournaments are an important opportunity for children in Mississippi to exercise not only their skills but self-confidence. A growing body of research indicates that playing chess improves students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills, which directly translates to their math, science, and reading scores. Grade Unrated Divisions: K-2 K-4 K-7 K-12 Rated Divisions: (All Ages Welcome) U500 U900 OPEN Fees: $20 Entry Fee for Tournament Participants $5 for Each Accompanying Adult/Child All entry fees include access to all museum exhibits for the day All entry fees increase by $5 for day-of registrants Pre-registration is recommended & appreciated. Check-in and on-site registration will be available from 9 AM – 10 AM. Online Registration closes on Apr. 22. Walk-ins on Saturday are welcome if capacity allows! Rounds: First Round starts at 10:30 AM Unrated & Rated: 5 Rounds SS, G/25+5 (No Eliminations) Chess sets (board/pieces/clocks) will be provided for use during the tournament. Trophies will be awarded to the Top 3 players in each division.
