Nambe Lake hike cancelled/substitute hike to the Valle de los Posos overlook at MarketStreet/Albertsons DeVargas (NOT the entry side) in Santa Fe, NM on Friday, July 10, 2026.
A beautiful hike through the high country above Los Alamos. We'll have dramatic overlooks of the Valles Caldera. Elevations range between 9,200 and 9,600 ft. The total round-trip hiking distance is about 6 miles with about 650 ft. of total elevation gain. Hiking is on abandoned road and good trail. At a minimum, bring a rain jacket or equivalent, drink and snack or lunch. We will stop at an overlook for lunch before returning the way we came. The 8:30 am start time is when we will depart Santa Fe. We will get up to the trailhead at about 9:30 am. Carpooling is encouraged. The total round-trip driving distance is 82 mi. with a suggested driver reimbursement of $8/rider. Bring enough snacks/lunch along.
