Fair Lawn - Reference Room. Join Bruce Williams, Professor of Cultural Studies at William Paterson University for a showing of eight of his paintings and discussion of how abstract art intersects with the poetry of Alexander Blok and the Russian Silver Age. Williams is an abstract painter and Professor of Cultural Studies. His work explores memory, landscape, and the limits of language through layered compositions that often incorporate traces of handwritten and partially legible text. Balancing structure and ambiguity, his paintings investigate what remains when meaning becomes fragmentary, uncertain, or transformed. The book entitled, "Where the Light Is Different: The Paintings of Bruce Williams" by Anna Stepanova (2026). Illustrated Russian-language monograph about his work. He will be discussing and showing his work from this book.
