“Rue” A Play by Heather Wallen | Strange Birds in Scranton Friday, October 2–Sunday, October 4, 2026 | Friday 9 PM; Saturday 2 PM; Sunday 5 PM “Rue” A Play by Heather Wallen comes to Strange Birds in Scranton, PA, from Friday, October 2, through Sunday, October 4, as part of the 2026 Scranton Fringe Festival. Performances are Friday at 9 PM, Saturday at 2 PM and Sunday at 5 PM. Part ghost story and part reckoning, “Rue” reimagines Ophelia in purgatory. She awakens in an unknown space, soaked in water and with little memory of her death. Joined by two figures representing her hidden thoughts, Ophelia confronts her brother, father and former lover. Her journey explores self-acceptance, mental illness, family ties and the consequences of personal choices. Featuring poetic prose and connections to Shakespearean tragedy, the play tells a modern story inspired by a familiar character. Tickets are $15. “Rue” brings a haunting exploration of identity, memory and choice to Scranton.
