Whether you’ve never picked up a pencil with any real intention or you’ve been drawing for years and are finally ready to understand value instead of guessing at it — this is the class! Truly understanding value, and how to achieve a full range through continuous layering, is the secret sauce that has driven my work for years. If you’re a beginner — fantastic, you’ll learn SO much! If you’re an experienced artist — terrific, you’ll UNLEARN SO much!! I promise this workshop will change your approach to graphite, helping it claim its rightful place as a beautiful medium unto itself. Looking at my geranium, a work in progress, you can see how layering and textural mark making allow for gorgeous results. Please bring a sketchbook and pencils — 2H, H, HB, 2B, 4B — plus an eraser.
