About this event
The name alone brings to mind gas stations, roadside diners, quirky attractions, and the thrill of adventure on the open road. In this nostalgic lecture, historian Leslie Goddard, Ph.D., explores the history of U.S. Route 66, the iconic highway that connected Chicago to Los Angeles from 1926 until its closure in the 1980s. Discover why Route 66 became the ultimate symbol of the American road trip, what it was like in its heyday, and how its legacy continues nearly 100 years after it first opened
