About this event
Celebrating USF’s Black Alumni Celebrate the University of South Florida’s 70th anniversary and commemorate the 65th anniversary of Ernest Boger becoming the university’s first Black student in September 1961. USF alumnus Imam Askia Muhammad Aquil, formerly known as Otha Favors, will reflect on the experiences of Black students at USF during the 1960s, followed by “The Village Speaks,” a roundtable discussion with USF alumni about the university’s future. The evening also features musical selections by Aris Clark, music from the 1960s through the 1990s with “DJ Marvelous,” alumni testimonials, table games, Cuban sandwich minis and light refreshments. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 6 p.m. and festivities continuing until 9 p.m. Join fellow alumni and community members at Tampa’s Black History Museum for an evening of history, conversation, music and connection.
