Reading: Guadalhorce Leaves Bayonne Forever

Guadalhorce Leaves Bayonne Forever is an experimental novella that takes its name from a John A. Noble painting. Starting at 1:30 PM, this short reading will introduce attendees to the main character, Anibal Guadalhorce, as he works on a Spanish vessel in the early 20th century as a translator. When the ship he is working on is wrecked in the 'empty handed blue of the Caribbean,' the novella dissolves into poetry. In this poem, made up of Guadalhorce's ruminations and shouts, the many languages that the boy has learned meld, exploring how language epistemically constricts or delimits us.
