About this event
Looking to support a child’s reading confidence and love of books? Join us for Reading Buddies, a welcoming literacy program that pairs elementary school students, with high school or college-aged mentors for one-on-one reading support. Each session includes a 20-minute reading time where students choose a book to read aloud while their Reading Buddy listens, encourages, and assists as needed. Literacy-based activities will also be available while participants wait for their session. Programs are free and designed with our community in mind. Every participating reader will receive a free book to take home at each session, generously funded by the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation. HPL thanks My Brother's Keeper Houston, an initiative of the Houston Health Department, for their partnership in supporting youth literacy.
