About this event
This racy, upscale 1932 musical was directed by the legendary Rouben Mamoulian and stars the always-dapper Maurice Chevalier and a surprisingly sexy Jeanette MacDonald, singing an inventive score by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. Chevalier is a Parisian tailor who poses as a nobleman to collect a sizeable bill from an aristocrat and ends up falling for an aloof young princess. The great supporting cast includes Myrna Loy and Charles Ruggles. Pre-Code Classics will include a 25-minute introduction from CCA Cinema Director Matthew Cannella. Matthew is a graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts with an emphasis on Cinema Critical Studies. He is the programmer for CCA’s robust film program, including the presentation series Sundays with Hitch. He is a student of St. John’s College Santa Fe Masters program where he is a contributing member to their film discussions. Center for ContemporaryArts
