About this event

Helen McKenna is back Edgar has been summoned from beyond to discuss his life and works. This time he will discuss his literary ties to Charles Dickens. As America’s premier literary critic, Poe reviewed the Dickens novel Barnaby Rudge. A raven in the novel (based on Dickens’ family pet Grip) could speak which inspired Poe to write a poem about a bird . . . Some of Dickens’ stories inspired Poe, especially “A Confession Found in a Prison in the Time of Charles the Second” which led to Poe writing “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Finally, it’s December. Poe will read an abridged version of “A Christmas Carol.” *This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Library
