About this event

Directed by Livi Kessel. 55 minutes (followed by Survivor-Speaks discussion). Not Rated. In Hebrew with English subtitles. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion with domestic abuse survivors, coordinated by Finding Our Voices. Finding Our Voices is the grassroots nonprofit breaking the silence of domestic abuse around Maine, including in schools, and providing practical resources and heart-healing support to women survivors and their children. Registration for this screening is recommended, and admission is pay-what-you-want. When teenage Livi is the first in her friend group to move in with a man, her girl friends are excited for her. But her world slowly gets smaller and more dangerous as he increasingly isolates and psychologically terrorizes her. The powerful documentary chronicles Livi’s journey against Prof. Jane Monkton Smith’s chilling and seminal timeline of the eight stages that precede intimate partner murder. Through Livi’s conversations with those who knew her while she was trapped in the domestic abuse, the film illuminates the dangerous gray zone of psychological abuse AKA coercive control that often hides in plain sight. Topics of the post-screening discussion will include how to best help someone you worry is trapped in an unhealthy intimate partner relationship, and the role the community can play in safeguarding our neighbors from dangerous family members.
