Packed wall-to-wall with brilliantly choregraphed gags and visual jokes, this nearly wordless comic masterpiece follows bumbling old-world goof Mr. Hulot (Jacques Tati) on a comic odyssey through an ultramodern consumerist metropolis. Voted the 23rd best film of all time in the 2022 Sight & Sound poll, Playtime was hailed by Roger Ebert as “one of a kind…a mysterious, magical film.” This screening is presented in conjunction with a Cinema Classics Seminar taught by Jennifer Fleeger, Ph.D. Seating for screening-only attendees will begin at 7:00 pm.
