Dates: Fridays, October 2, 9, 16, 2026 (3-sessions) Time: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM This 9-hour course introduces participants to the remarkable diversity of North Carolina’s native plant communities and the natural processes that shape them. Differences in geology, climate, soils, fire regimes, landscape position, and other environmental factors have given rise to an extraordinary variety of ecosystems. Through a combination of classroom instruction and outdoor exploration in the display gardens, participants will gain an understanding of the ecological and historical factors that have shaped the distribution, composition, and diversity of plant communities across the state. Open to the general public. This course counts as a core course in the Certificate in Native Plants program.
