Pigment to Paint

Students will learn the fundamental process of creating their own watercolor paints from scratch. This will include grinding pigments, mixing with a binder, filling half pans, and formulating their desired color palettes. We will take a look at the properties of different pigments and how they behave. We will explore various watercolor techniques and create a collection of reference swatches. Allison will guide the class through a basic flat wash, a graded wash, wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, blending, sponge, scumbling, splattering, underpainting, layering, lifting, pulling paint, resist techniques, and more. This workshop is open to ages 15+ Students are asked to bring the following supplies Sketchbook or notebook for taking notes Writing/drawing tools Apron Your supply fee will cover the following Pigments Watercolor paper and swatch charts Binder ingredients Empty half pans and tins Use of my glass slabs, paint mullers, palette knives, brushes, tape, watercolor mediums, and other additives.
