Both Rachmaninoff’s Isle of the Dead and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition take us into the world of visual art, gathering ideas from famous paintings and using melody and timbre as tour guides. Between these works, the extraordinary prodigy Himari steps onto the stage for her remarkable SLSO debut. She performs Glazunov’s lyrical Violin Concerto, music charged with beautiful tension.
