About this event
Kids and teens will find a fantastic listener when they spend time reading to a trained dog from Pets on Wheels of Delmarva (POWD) during Paws for Reading! Choose from a dog-friendly collection of books for all reading levels or bring a favorite book from home to share. Research shows that reading out loud to an animal helps build reading confidence and improve reading skills. Each participant will have at least 10 minutes of one-on-one reading time with a canine book buddy. Depending on how many people register, you may get extra time for reading. While you're not reading to a dog, you can do a craft activity, hang out with friends, solo read, or color. Kids (ages 5-12) Children under 8 must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver who is at least 13-years-old. Teens (ages 13-17) Registration required. Please register each participant individually. Individual reading time slots will be assigned to registered participants on the day of the program.
