Every Mile Matters! At the PMC Lawson Cancer Center, we see courage every single day. We see it in the faces of the patients who walk through our doors, many of them traveling from the farthest corners of our region. For a lot of the families we serve, the fight against cancer doesn’t begin in the treatment chair. It begins in the driveway, with a hard look at the gas gauge and a quiet worry about how to make the trip, not just once, but three times a week for weeks or months on end. The funds raised each year at the race become the very real, very practical support that helps our patients keep going. They become the gas cards that get someone to their next appointment. They become the supportive programs that surround a patient with care beyond the medicine, the groups where people who understand each other can gather, the small comforts that make a hard day a little softer, the helping hands on the days when getting through feels impossible. None of it happens on its own. It happens because hundreds of people lace up their shoes on a cool October morning, wear their colors for the ones they love, and walk a course through downtown Pikeville on behalf of neighbors they may never meet. Every registration, every step, every dollar turns directly into help for someone in our community who is battling this disease. A race is never just a race. It’s a tank of gas. It’s a ride to treatment. It’s a hand on a shoulder on the hardest of days. It’s an entire community deciding that no neighbor should have to fight cancer alone. This October, we’re doing it again. This year we are combining efforts with the Pike County Health Dept (Paint Pikeville Pink). A cancer patient is counting on us, so let’s show up on Oct 9th.
