About this event
@ On the Record: Listening & Liner Notes is a four-part series bringing Carnegie’s own Reggie Watkins into conversation with the music that made jazz what it is. Equal parts listening party and guided discussion, each session explores a different era of jazz history through the recordings themselves. Drummer David Throckmorton steps in for Reggie Watkins this session. Like Reggie, he is a Maynard Ferguson alum, and he has played with Mike Stern, John McLaughlin, Chris Potter, and Dianne Schuur. He leads or co-leads groups including the DTC Organ Trio and Thoth Trio, and is co-owner of Pittsburgh Drum Exchange. In the third session of the On the Record series, Be-Bop and Hard Bop, Watkins digs into the revolution, the musicians who took jazz apart and rebuilt it faster, harder, and more complex than anyone thought possible. Come ready to listen, ask questions, and hear the music that changed everything. REGISTER Registration appreciated but not required. Walk-ins welcome!
